Aftercare for Cosmetic Tattooing Procedures:

Follow instructions carefully, as this greatly affects the outcome of your permanent makeup. For the first 3 - 6 days, the colour intensity of your tattoo will be significantly brighter/darker as well as larger and sharper than what is expected for the final outcome. Although the area will appear healed after 10 days, it will not be fully healed for 4 - 6 weeks (8 weeks for lips). This is based on how quickly the outer layer of your skin exfoliates.

One procedure cannot guarantee desired outcome. In some cases, we need to see how our clients react to the pigment and review the healing process after the first procedure. Therefore, we offer a free touch up within 3 months of the initial procedure. For more complicated procedures involving removal / colour correction / camouflage / scar tissue / iron disorder / etc. extra charges may apply for additional touch ups.

FOR ALL PROCEDURES:

Keep the area moisturized! Use Vaseline or Vitamin A & D ointment as aftercare. For the first 10 - 14 days, gently apply every hour or two, or whenever you feel tender, itchy or dry. This will provide pain relief, prevent infection, and promote the healing and help retain the colour.

Avoid soaps and facial cleansers on pigmented areas. Wash around them, and gently pat dry with a clean towel.

Before showering, use Vaseline or Vitamin A & D Ointment on your tattoo. DO NOT directly shower the treated area.

Before sleeping, use Vaseline or Vitamin A & D Ointment to keep the area moisturized overnight. Use dark (clean) pillowcases to avoid staining.

DO NOT RUB, PICK OR SCRATCH ANY CRUST ALONG THE TATTOOED AREA! Early removal of the pigment crusts may result in colour loss.

DO NOT apply make up on the pigmented area during the healing process

Avoid swimming, soaking, steam baths, eyebrow waxing/tweezing and facials for the first week.

Avoid sun exposure (including tanning beds) during the healing process.

FOR EYEBROWS:

Eyebrows may be swollen for the first few hours. The colour will look darker for the first 5 days, or until the scab peels off (on it's own!), then it will look smaller and lighter! Try to sleep on your back during the healing process.

FOR EYELINER:

DO NOT use mascara or eyeshadow for the first 10 days.

Eyelid will be puffy and swollen for the first few days. Area can be iced, approximately 10 minutes each time, for the first 3 days. Wrap ice pack with fresh plastic wrap to avoid getting debris in the tattooed area.
Avoid touching your eyes.

FOR LIPS:

If you have ever had a cold sore / fever blisters / herpes on or around your lips, you MUST obtain a prescription from your doctor for Zovirox / Valtrex PRIOR to having the procedure done. Start taking the prescription 3 days before your appointment, and continue for 4 days after the procedure (or follow doctors instruction). Failure to take this antiviral medication may result in an outbreak which will compromise the results of your tattoo.

The lips will look very intense for the first 2 - 3 days. Swelling may also occur. Usually the scab will naturally come off within the first 3 days, revealing a more pale colour. Be patient while the skin matures and heals. It will take approximately 1 month for the final result to show.

Use clean Q-Tips to apply antibiotic ointment (Polysporin) 3 times daily for the first 3 days. If you have an allergic reaction to polysporin (ie: rash and swelling) stop using the polysporin and see your doctor for an alternate prescription.

Avoid eating spicy and salty foods, and use a straw for drinking for the first 4 days.

LONG TERM CARE FOR ALL PROCEDURES:

Use a good sunscreen daily on tattooed area. Sun exposure damages your skin, and fades your tattoo.

The pigment used in cosmetic tattooing is Iron Oxide based which your body slowly absorbs as mineral irons, so the colour will fade over time. You may need a touch up every 1 - 3 years. The speed in which it will fade depends on your skin type, sun exposure, etc.

If you are planning a chemical peel, MRI or other medical procedure, please tell your medical professional that you have an iron oxide cosmetic tattoo.

If you are planning to have laser treatment, tell your laser specialist to avoid the pigmented area, as lasering may cause the pigment to turn black.
